In the mountain areas of the Chugoku region, almost all residents have had the experience of migrating to cities for education or employment during the early part of their life course. Using the concept of “outsiders grown up inside their hometown,” this study considers how family business successors form hybrid identities that combine the natures of a local resident and a city resident and how nurturing “outsiders grown up inside their hometown” may serve as the driving force behind local revitalization. The study approaches the construction of identity from temporal and spatial aspects. To clarify the process by which the two identities integrate while experiencing internal conflict, the life story method was employed to conduct empirical surveys with family business successors. The analysis reveals the fact that family business successors, with their hybrid identities, face structural changes related to population decline in the local community. In the narratives of the family business successors, when changes in the local community turned into problems that impacted the family business, the nature of “outsiders who grew up inside their hometown” functioned as an agency of business reform. Arguments concerning local revitalization have thus far often emphasized the opposing aspects of endogenous development through nurturing and harnessing the unique characteristics and spontaneity of local residents and exogenous development that incorporates a new sense of values from outsiders. The paper analyzes the learning objects and effects of the school by interviewing high-school students. The first part of the paper explains how the reform is influenced by the result of four ongoing educational issues in Japan: The Ministry of Education's recent educational reform on a high school, the concept of "School as a Team", a social movement against the abolition of schools in depopulated areas, and increasing interests in school's roles in the revitalization of a region. In the latter part, this paper analyzes what and how students learn in different ways than MIRYOKUKA educational reform aimed at first. By analyzing interview data of students by the method of M-GTA, this research found that although the aims of education under MIRYOKUKA project is to help students learn how to revitalize a region and acquire problem solving skills by using regional resources, students also encourage their self-development as well as overcome the experience of past failures in their early life. Moreover, they seem to enjoy the experience of flow (Csikszentmihalyi). Rural areas historically have been supplying human resources to cities and now are suffering from depopulation. Tackling the matters of ongoing depopulation of rural areas will give us tips to solve coming issues of Japanese population reduction society. Now the schools in Shimane prefecture, which is the most depopulated area in Japan, are trying to develop education system intending to nurture local human resources who contributes to their home towns. In research areas, mountainous areas and isolated islands in Shimane prefecture, almost all the students leave their towns after they graduate from senior high schools. However, there are often cases that they leave their home towns although they do not want to. This study reveals type of students who tends to move between their home towns, and timings and intensions behind their migrations. Findings are as follows. In general, many students have an intention to leave their home town at the age of 18, after they graduate from senior high schools, and go back to the town at their later stages of their life. The ratio of the students who want to go back to town monotonically increase in accordance with the stages of age. About 60% of them desire to go back after the age of 60. Male students have stronger needs to stay at cities at every stage of age compared to that of female students. The difference of both is highest at the age of 25 but is decreasing at later stages of age. Students highly achieved at schools tends to have an intention to go back to towns at later stages of age. This paper reveals the aspects of the brain circulation at the relatively early stage of scientists' career. The original conference was mainly planned to cultivate young scientists' sound mind and making a peace. In the age of the brain circulation, it is spreading to other countries, and changing aims. Conferences have become governments' strategy of attracting and nurturing higher-level global human resources in science fields. Firstly, the paper compares “Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting” in German, “Hope meeting with Nobel Laureate” in Japan and “Global Young Scientists Summit(GYSS)” in Singapore . The purpose of this article is to discuss local sovereignty and learning society in the perspective of the curriculum, and how the education of senior high schools in the study region contributes to the new cooperation and public relations. With regard to the data analysis, we used the perspective of a students' spirit of positivity in community and social capital. The background of the research is as follows. In Japan in remote areas, school knowledge was relatively irrelevant to communities and the main purpose of schools was educating students in order to send them to the cities. School knowledge is mainly based on textbooks and oriented to working in the cities. Now that depopulation has become the top issue in remote areas and it has become difficult to maintain communities, schools and communities are required to corporate in the point of changing the curriculum to create local human resources. In the study regions, which are islands and mountainous areas in Shimane Prefecture in Japan, schools try to use the local resources as elements of their curriculum. Their curriculum is thought to be Community Problem Based Learning (CPBL). In the process of CPBL, students learn the values and possibilities of communities by solving community problems caused by depopulation. Most of the students get out of the towns after graduation but are expected to come back and work as local human resources. This article focused on the social capital of seniorhigh school students in rural areas and ways toenrich them considering the relationship betweenself-sufficiency of community and the education ofsenior high schools. This study is based on our survey of 395 secondyearstudents in senior high schools located inmountainous areas and on an isolated island inShimane Prefecture. In this study we focused ontrust, norms of reciprocity, and network of socialcapital. We examined their state and problems, andalso elucidated the effect of senior high school'seducation towards them. The findings are that the students have richsocial capital in general but not enough networkin the community. Therefore, it is important thatschools enrich their network by giving opportunitiesfor having interactions between students andresidents. In addition, students' positivity in thecommunity which CPBL aims to enrich and eachelement of social capital are highly correlated, butknowledge and social capital are not. Consequently,students need not only the gaining of knowledgefrom textbooks but also the experience of solvingcommunity problems to have positivity in thecommunity. Furthermore, it is revealed that thestudents have rich bonding social capital but poorbridging social capital. From this point of view, itis necessary for students to get opportunities tointeract with people outside their towns and learnknowledge, skills and views from them. To achievethis, the findings have important suggestions. Werevealed that the three elements of social capitalabove have weak correlations and so it is necessary to account for their effects individually.
